Pattern File Formats
Each set of my Photoshop patterns comes with two file formats: JPG and .PAT.
- JPG files — Great for using the patterns in programs that don’t support Photoshop pattern files, or for adding the pattern as an image layer.
- .PAT files — These are Photoshop Pattern files that can be installed directly into Adobe Photoshop and used from the Patterns panel.
✨How to Install a .PAT File in Photoshop
Installing a .PAT file is quick and easy!
- Download and unzip the pattern set.
- Locate the .PAT file inside the folder.
- Open Adobe Photoshop.
- Go to Window → Patterns to open the Patterns panel.
- In the Patterns panel, click the menu icon (☰) in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Import Patterns…
- Locate and select the
.PATfile you downloaded, then click Open. - Your new patterns will appear in the Patterns panel and are ready to use!
Tip: You only need to install the .PAT file once. After that, the patterns will remain available in Photoshop unless you remove them.
